HRH Princess Marie enters into collaboration with H.C. Andersen Children’s Hospital at Odense University Hospital to assist in strengthening the knowledge about the Children’s Hospital and its work in treating children and young people and in strengthening the activities which provide positive experiences for the children and their families during hospitalization.

One of the challenges at H.C. Andersen Children’s Hospital is to maintain good child life, even though, every day, one sees needles, beds and hospital smocks instead of school friends and classrooms. It can be difficult to be parents of children who are hospitalized for weeks and months or who so often require treatment that normal everyday life has to be put on hold. The Princess visited the children’s hospital in 2013 and was introduced to part of the work that takes place there in cooperation between the University of Southern Denmark and Odense University Hospital. During the visit, the Princess met some of the hospitalized children and their parents.

The new collaboration will focus on several areas, such as new activities and treatment centres at the hospital for children, youth and their families, new treatment methods and cooperation with businesses in the region. The Princess will participate in selected arrangements with the children and their families and will be briefed continuously about the work of the children’s hospital.

The Princess already collaborates with the University of Southern Denmark to assist, among other things, in strengthening knowledge about the university’s research and educational programmes.
