The government allowance is adjusted twice a year in accordance with development of the pay index for state sector employees. As of 1 April 2023, the civil list payment totals DKK 7,595,369 a month.
The government allowance covers the expenses of HM The Queen relating to staff, operation of the Royal Household, administration and properties as well as The Queen's expenses of a more private nature. For HRH Princess Benedikte, the allowance covers expenses connected to official obligations.
In addition to the government allowance for The Queen, the Civil List Act provides an allowance of DKK 1,869,573 a month for HRH The Crown Prince, of which HRH The Crown Princess receives 10 percent. HRH Prince Joachim gets an allowance of DKK 330,450 a month.
Under income tax law, The Queen, The Crown Prince, The Crown Princess, Prince Joachim, HRH Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte are exempted from paying income tax, and under the Act on the Registration of Motor Vehicles, The Queen, The Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte are exempted from paying vehicle registration tax, etc.
The Queen, The Crown Prince, The Crown Princess, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte are subject to the standard regulations concerning payment of death duties, inheritance tax and real property tax.
