The Queen and The Prince Consort pay a visit in Greenland aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog during the period of 8-22 July 2015.

The visit takes place in North and West Greenland.

HM The Queen begins the visit in North Greenland with calls at Ittoqqortoormiit, Station Nord and Thule Air Base as well as calls in the settlement of Savissivik. This part of the visit is without the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

In West Greenland, aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, The Queen and The Prince Consort pay visits in Upernavik, Ukkusissat, Qullissat, Saqqaq, Ilulissat, Qasigiannguit, Kitsissuarsuit, Sisimiut, Kangaamiut, Maniitsoq and Nuuk.

Wednesday, 8 July

Station Nord

Visit at Station Nord and Villum Research Station

HM The Queen is shown around at Station Nord and afterwards presides over the opening of the Villum Research Station at Station Nord.


Thursday, 9 July

Ittoqqortoormiit

Visit in Ittoqqortoormiit

The Queen is welcomed by members of the municipal council, Charlotte Pike and Erling Madsen. Afterwards, The Queen visits the senior citizens collective and the kindergarten Paarsisor. Later in the day, The Queen takes part in a coffee and cake get-together with the town’s citizens, where there will be entertainment and presentation of the town’s gift.
 
Visit at Daneborg Station
Evening

During the visit, The Queen is given a tour of the station and sees, among other things, the Sirius kennel. Afterwards, The Queen is shown the film about wintering. Daneborg Station is the headquarters of the Sirius Dog Sled Patrol, which is responsible for the enforcement of Danish sovereignty in Greenland’s National Park. 


Friday, 10 July

Thule Air Base and Savissivik

The Queen pays a visit at the American defence facility Thule Air Base.

The Queen is greeted by municipal council member Jens Danielsen, after which The Queen participates in a short walk in the settlement. Afterwards, there will be a coffee and cake get-together with the settlement’s residents, where council member Hans Karlsen gives a briefing about the settlement’s history. 

 

 

 

Sunday, 12 July

Upernavik

Welcoming ceremony on the quay

The Queen and The Prince Consort are greeted by parliament member and former mayor Jens Immanuelsen. At the greeting ceremony, there will be a salute as well as entertainment by a choir, and those attending will give nine cheers. 

Visit at Prinsesse Margrethe Skolen

The Queen and The Prince Consort visit Prinsesse Margrethe Skolen and are shown selected classrooms at the school. There will be an explanation of the school’s development since its 1960 opening, in which The Queen participated. Outside of the school, children will dance the kalattuut, which is a traditional Greenlandic dance.

During the visit, The Queen and The Prince Consort are shown parts of the exhibition. Afterwards, there will be a briefing about the settlement’s history, and objects reflecting local history will be displayed.

The Queen and The Prince Consort take part in a coffee and cake get-together with the settlement’s residents. During the gathering, The Queen and The Prince Consort watch a drum dance, hear a choir sing and are presented with the settlement’s gift.
