The Royal Danish House’s workshop has overhauled 400 gold chairs to be used at the gala banquet, which will take place in the Great Hall at Christiansborg Palace. The gold chairs are marked by their color, the back’s four finely turned slats, and the seat’s French wicker.

The gold chair has a long history in the Danish royal house, and the first gold chairs came at the end of the 1800. At that time, six concert chairs of gilded wood were purchased, of which only one remains today.

In 1929, the Royal Danish House bought 1,012 gold chairs of a newer and lighter design. 212 gold chairs stayed at Amalienborg, and 800 gold chairs became part of the furnishings at Christiansborg Palace. Since then, it has become tradition to use the gold chairs at the official events of the Royal Danish House.

In 1994-1995, the Royal Danish House bought an additional 710 new gold chairs, most of which will be found at the evening’s celebration. In addition to Amalienborg and Christiansborg Palace, the gold chairs are used at Fredensborg Palace.
