Program for state visit from France

HE The Republic of France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Mrs. Macron come to Denmark for a state visit on 28-29 August 2018.

The visit will be the second state visit from France since HM The Queen assumed the throne in 1972. The first took place in 1982, when then-president François Mitterrand visited Denmark.

Four years prior to then, in 1978, The Queen and Prince Henrik went on a state visit to France hosted by then-president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.

Tuesday, 28 August

Wreath-laying ceremony at The Citadel

The Crown Prince Couple welcome the President and First Lady and participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument at The Citadel.

Official welcome at Amalienborg
11.30

The President and First Lady ride with the Crown Prince Couple to Amalienborg escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment’s Mounted Squadron. Upon the arrival at Christian VII’s Palace, HM The Queen receives the President and First Lady. TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and HRH Princess Benedikte will also be present.

Working luncheon

HRH The Crown Princess hosts a working luncheon focused on gender equality at Frederik VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg. Mrs. Macron participates.

Meeting with the Prime Minister

The president participates in a meeting with prime minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

Visit at the School of Design

The Crown Princess and Mrs. Macron together visit the School of Design on Holmen in Copenhagen. Here, The Crown Princess and Mrs. Macron will, among other things, take part in a tour of the school and get an introduction the school’s and the students’ work with sustainable design and fashion.

Meeting with the Danish Parliament’s speaker and party leaders

The President participates in a meeting with Danish Parliament Speaker Pia Kjærsgaard, party leaders and chairmen of relevant committees.

Walking tour to The Royal Danish Library

The President and the Prime Minister take part in a walking tour from Christiansborg to The Royal Danish Library.

Presentation of Søren Kierkegaard manuscripts

HRH The Crown Prince participates together with the President and the Prime Minister in a presentation of Søren Kierkegaard manuscripts at The Royal Danish Library.

Conference at The Black Diamond
16.00

The President and the Prime Minister take part in a conference and debate about Europe at The Black Diamond. The Crown Prince is present and attends the debate.

Sailing tour in Copenhagen Harbor

The President and First Lady and the Prime Minister Couple take part in a sailing tour in Copenhagen Harbor.

State dinner at Christiansborg Palace
20.00

The Queen hosts a state dinner in honor of the French President and First Lady. The state dinner participants include the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, Princess Benedikte, the government, the Danish Parliament’s presidium, the French delegation, representatives of selected companies, and others.

At the state dinner, there will be speeches by The Queen and the President.

Wednesday, 29 August

Departure
09.00

The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple bid farewell to the President and First Lady at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg, where the guest book will be inscribed and window panes will be signed.

Visit at the Confederation of Danish Industry
09.25

The Crown Prince, the President and the Prime Minister together visit the Confederation of Danish Industry and participate in a French-Danish business conference under the theme “Transforming France: A Nordic Perspective”.

Visit at Rysensteen Gymnasium
09.30

The Crown Princess and Mrs. Macron visit Rysensteen Gymnasium and get an introduction to the school’s “Global Citizenship Program” during the visit. Afterwards, The Crown Princess and Mrs. Macron take part in a walking tour to the school’s classrooms on Flæsketorvet and observe a lesson period. 

Visit at the Glyptotek
11.00

The Crown Princess and the President and First Lady together visit the Glyptotek and participate in a cultural arrangement with a number of Danish artists and cultural personages.

Reciprocal arrangement at the Royal Play House
13.50

As a conclusion to the state visit, the President and First Lady hold a reciprocal arrangement at the Royal Play House. The Queen, the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and Princess Benedikte participate.

During the state visit, the President and First Lady will also pay a short memorial visit at the cultural center Krudttønden together with the prime minister couple.
