Program for visit to Indonesia

The days of 2-4 December 2019, HRH The Crown Princess pays a visit to Indonesia together with development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the UN’s Population Fund (UNFPA).

With a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), The Crown Princess will visit Indonesia with development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and UN Population Fund Executive Director Natalia Kanem from 2-4 December. The visit will provide insight into how SRHR challenges and solutions are handled in Indonesia. In addition, Her Royal Highness will participate in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Indonesia.

Her Royal Highness has been patron of the UNFPA since 2010. As patron of the organization, The Crown Princess has had a special focus through the years on the fight against infant mortality, maternal mortality and circumcision of girls and women, as well as ensuring that both women and men have the right to a healthy life and equal opportunities. These topics are the UNPFA’s key areas of effort and, during the stay in Indonesia, The Crown Princess will take part in visits and meetings which support these focus areas and the importance of involving men, young people and religious leaders in the work of promoting SRHR.

Monday, 2 December

Panel debate "Healthy & Organic Parenting"

The Crown Princess attends and speaks at a panel debate focused on, among other things, children, healthy diet and fitness. A number of young “influencers” also take part in the debate.

Marking of World AIDS Day 2019
16:00

On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2019, The Crown Princess takes part in an observance of the day. In connection with the arrangement, The Crown Princess will deliver a speech and enter into a dialogue with young people as well as activists. Development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem also participate in the observance. In Indonesia, UNFPA is the leader on AIDS prevention work for the region’s sex workers and, among other things, encourages workers to know their HIV status and know about safe sex practices.

Working dinner with the Danish ambassador

The Crown Princess, development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn, UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem and representatives of public authorities take part in a working dinner with HE Denmark’s Ambassador to Indonesia Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen.

Tuesday, 3 December

Visit at Indonesia Midwives Association

The Crown Princess and UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem visit the Indonesian association for midwives. In connection with the visit, there will be a dialogue about female circumcision, which, despite being illegal, is still practiced because of traditions and religious interpretations, among other things. UNFPA supports efforts in Indonesia for both education of midwives and dissemination of information about female circumcision. Among other things, the organization helps to upgrade the training curriculum for midwives and is in dialogue with religious leaders about erroneous connections between circumcision of girls and Islam.

Dialogue about gender-based violence and humanitarian crisis management

The Crown Princess takes part in a dialogue with the Indonesian health authorities and the organization National Commission for Violence against Women. The organization devotes itself to the basic rights of Indonesian women, especially with regard to all forms of violence against women.

Mobile health clinic visit

The Crown Princess, development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem visit the café Peacumber Coffee, where an example of a mobile health clinic is set up. The mobile clinics are one of UNFPA’s initiatives for the benefit of access to contraception in Indonesia. The sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women are recognized, but contraception is not offered to unmarried women and to married women who do not have permission from their husbands. The clinics offer free access to information, health services and contraception. At the Peacumber Coffee mobile clinic, The Crown Princess takes part in a dialogue about SRHR information targeted at young people.

Celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Indonesia

The Crown Princess participates in and speaks at the launch of the celebration of the two countries’ diplomatic relations. In connection with the arrangement, the logo for the official celebration will be presented, and Her Royal Highness, together with development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem, will attend a Danish-Indonesian ballet and be offered a Danish-Indonesian menu.

Visit at the health center Puskesmas Tegalrejo

The Crown Princess pays a visit to a local public health care center together with UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem. The local centers are an example of the general improvement of Indonesia’s health care coverage and also national health insurance, which was introduced in 2014. UNFPA cooperates with authorities and research institutions to examine how good pregnancy and birthing services as well as access to contraception function in practice. In this connection, Her Royal Highness takes part in a dialogue about the sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women during the visit.

Luncheon at the Sultan’s palace

The Crown Princess and development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn participate in a luncheon at Sultan Hamengkubuwono X’s palace in the city Yogyakarta.

Dialogue about family planning and involvement of men

The Crown Princess and development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn meet Indonesian religious leaders and engage in a dialogue about family planning, among other things. In Indonesia, religion plays a central role in the promotion of family planning programs and advice to prospective parents, and UNFPA therefore steps in through, among other things, providing expert assistance to religious advisors and improving knowledge men have about family planning.
