State visit to Belgium
Their Majesties The King and Queen will pay a state visit to Belgium from 8 to 10 September 2026, at the invitation of Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.
The state visit is intended to mark the community of values between Belgium and Denmark: at a time of change, marked by geopolitical shifts and increasing demands on European capacity for action, Denmark and Belgium stand together in the ambition for a strong and competitive Europe that safeguards our shared values. The state visit is also a meeting between two monarchies, both of which provide continuity and stability in their countries during periods of change.
The state visit begins in Brussels with an official reception at the Place des Palais with The King and Queen of Belgium, together with meetings with the Prime Minister, the Federal Parliament and the city's mayor. A gala dinner will be held at Laeken Castle in the evening.
On 9 September, the visit continues in the Belgian region of Wallonia with a visit to the Lauzelle Forest, accompanied by researchers and students from the University of Louvain, who will speak about the forest, which is both an active ecological restoration project, a field laboratory and a public park.
Back in Brussels, representatives of about 40 Danish companies taking part in a trade mission in the fields of energy and life science will receive a royal visit. The King and Queen of Denmark will then take part in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Danish Church in Brussels. In the evening, The King and Queen of Denmark will host a return event.
On 10 September, the Kings and Queens will visit the region of Flanders, where they will learn about Antwerp's development from a classic port city to also being one of Europe's most vibrant cultural cities today. There will be a luncheon reception on board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog, together with a cruise of the harbour, before the visit concludes with an official farewell at the Dannebrog.
Throughout the state visit, The King and Queen will be accompanied by representatives of the Danish Government. The programme is subject to change.
The full programme and press programme for the visit will be announced at a later date.
