When The Prince’s bier is driven to Christiansborg Palace Church, the hearse will be followed by Her Majesty The Queen and the royal family in vehicles.

Upon arrival at Christiansborg Palace Church, The Prince’s bier will be met by a guard of honour with colours from the Jutland Dragoon Regiment, after which the bier will be carried into the Palace Church by 10 officers from The Royal Life Guard. Outside, The Prince’s Band will play Hartmann's funeral march Sørgemarch for Thorvaldsen and, inside the church, the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir will sing, after which the royal family will participate in a private religious service led by the royal Chaplain-In-Ordinary.

From 17 February to 19 February, Prince Henrik’s bier will be in Castrum Doloris in Christiansborg Palace Church. Until the funeral, the public will be allowed in the church during the time period of 15.00-19.00 on Saturday, 17 February and Monday, 19 February, while it will be open 12.00-19.00 on Sunday, 18 February.

Since the 1600s, Castrum Doloris has been a steadfast tradition in the Royal Danish House, providing the public the opportunity to show final respects and say farewell. Castrum Doloris, which comes from Latin and means “castle of grief”, is the description of the raised platform in Christiansborg Palace Church on which Prince Henrik’s bier will be placed. In The Prince’s case, the bier will be placed on a catafalque, which is covered with a cloth of purple velvet.

In Denmark, it is an old tradition that officers stand watch by the Castrum Doloris. Officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Home Guard will in stand in turns as honour guards around Prince Henrik’s bier. Each watch team will consist of eight officers, one of whom will be chief with the rank of colonel or commander and one serving as second-in-command with the rank of lieutenant-colonel or captain. In addition, there will be two majors or naval commanders, two captains or lieutenant-commanders and two first lieutenants

All photographing of the Castrum Doloris is strongly prohibited. If this rule is not obeyed, photographic equipment will be confiscated.
