Presentation of Georg Jensen's “Jubilee Jewelry”

In connection with the 50th anniversary of HM The Queen’s accession to the throne on 14 January 2022, the Danish design company Georg Jensen at the end of 2020 announced a design competition with the objective of creating Georg Jensen’s next iconic jewelry. The result of the competition was the “Jubilee Jewelry”, and, as part of the celebration of the anniversary of the accession to the throne, Her Majesty was presented a special edition of the jewelry today in the Great Hall of Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg.

The winners of Georg Jensen’s design competition, Ditte Bjerregaard and Sofie Elkjær Jensen, have created a piece of jewelry inspired by Her Majesty’s motto “God’s help, the love of The People, Denmark’s strength” and The Queen’s work with theatrical arts. The heart in the jewelry piece tells the story of the people’s love, the golden bar symbolizes God’s help, and the unbroken circle that frames the jewelry piece represents Denmark’s strength. In addition to that, there are 50 grooves on the frame symbolizing the period of the Her Majesty’s reign, and the other bars depict an M for Margrethe. The jewelry piece was designed as miniature theatre scenography with various layers of background, which is a tribute to The Queen’s work with scenography.

In connection with the sale of the “Jubilee Jewelry”, a donation will be given to Queen Margrethes and Prince Henrik’s Foundation, which supports cultural, scientific and social purposes, in the form of specific projects. The donation to the foundation is Georg Jensen’s jubilee gift to The Queen. The picture shows The Queen together with designer Sofie Elkjær Jensen, Museum Director at The Royal Danish Collection Thomas Thulstrup, CEO at Georg Jensen Mehul Tank, Creative Director at Georg Jensen Ragnar Hjartarson and designer Ditte Bjerregaard.
