Programme for visit in New York

HRH The Crown Princess is in New York from 27-29 September 2015 to participate in a number of activities in connection with the UN’s General Assembly.

The trip is in connection with The Crown Princess’s involvement in promoting the rights and equality of women and girls, including The Crown Princess’s membership in the High Level Task Force for the International Conference on Population and Development.

PROGRAMME

SUNDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER

Global Leaders’ Meeting on Achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

During the visit, The Crown Princess will participate in the ‘Global Leaders’ Meeting on Achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment’. The starting point of the meeting is the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action at the Fourth World Congress on Women in 1995, which has the objective of getting heads of state and government to reaffirm their countries’ engagement in and intention to fulfil the goals set for the rights of women and girls. China’s president, Xi Jinping, and the UN’s secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, host the meeting. Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen also takes part in it.    
 

Visit at North Nordic Food Festival

The Crown Princess will participate in the ‘North Nordic Food Festival’ – a festival which, for the third year in a row, pays tribute to northern cuisine. During the so-called ‘Denmark Day’, The Crown Princess will, among other things, meet chef and entrepreneur Claus Meyer, who in 2016 will open a so-called ‘Nordic Food Hall’ in Grand Central Terminal, right in New York. Environment and food minister Eva Kjer Hansen also takes part.

#Generation 2030: Torchbearers for the SDGs

The Crown Princess gives the opening speech during the meeting ‘#Generation2030: Torchbearers for the SDG’s’. This is a meeting which focuses on the important roles young people play in the implementation of the new global sustainable development goals. The meeting is held jointly by Denmark, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, the UN’s development programme, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth and the civil society organization ‘Restless Development’. In addition, the chairman of the UN’s general assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, will take part. A number of youths will tell about their personal involvement in, for example, sexual and reproductive health. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for dialogue between the young people and the governmental representatives.

Maternity Foundation

The Crown Princess gives the opening speech at the event ‘Mobile Innovations for Maternal Health’ held by the ‘Maternity Foundation’, a Danish organization. The event focuses on the use of mobile technology to save the lives of mothers and infants in developing countries. In connection with the event, ‘The Safe Delivery App’ – a new mobile training tool for birth attendants in Africa – will be presented. The app was developed by the Maternity Foundation in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen and the University of Southern Denmark. 
 

MONDAY, 28 SEPTEMBER

Meeting of the High Level Task Force

The Crown Princess participates in an all-day meeting of the High Level Task Force (HLTF) for the International Conference on Population and Development. HLTF is an independent body consisting of 26 prominent leaders, including heads of state, ministers and parliamentarians, representatives from civil society and the private sector, and philanthropic leaders. The objective of HLTF is to promote and ensure the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls in the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Crown Princess has been a member of HLTF since its establishment in October 2012.
 

TUESDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER

Women Deliver: The Road to Copenhagen 2016

‘Women Deliver: The Road to Copenhagen’ is a meeting arranged by the organization Women Deliver, UN Women and the Danish UN Mission. The Crown Princess, the executive directors of UN Women and Women Deliver, Danish foreign minister Kristian Jensen, gender equality ministers and young people from around the world will discuss how investment in the health, rights and well-being of girls and women can help to create progress. The meeting in New York leads up to next year’s Women Deliver conference, which will be held in Copenhagen in May 2016 with The Crown Princess as its patron.
