Programme for visit in South Africa

From 2-5 November 2014, Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess and Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Mogens Jensen visit South Africa.
The visit in South Africa will focus particularly on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) – thus, the right to make decisions about one’s own body, including choosing when to have children, whether to use contraception and having the opportunity to give birth under proper conditions. In addition to that, the visit will strengthen the commercial ties between Denmark and South Africa, in as much as South Africa is an important growth market for Danish businesses
The Crown Princess participates in continuation of her longstanding global advocacy for sexual and reproductive health and rights, among other things as a member of the High Level Task Force for ICPD (International Conference on Population and Development) and through her patronage of the UN’s Population Fund (UNFPA).
The Crown Princess and the minister will, among other things, visit a township in Cape Town and meet some of the people who work to make life worth living for as many as possible of the one-third of young mothers who have HIV in South Africa. In addition, there will be visits at a clinic offering support to victims of gender-based violence to see, among other things, how the private sector contributes to supporting victims of violence.
During the visit, The Crown Princess and the Trade and Development Cooperation Minister will also promote the commercial cooperation between Denmark and South Africa by focusing on Danish positions of strength and competencies in, for example, the wind energy sector and Danish design and architecture.

The Crown Princess participates in a dinner with representatives from the LGBTI community in South Africa at the restaurant La Mouette in Cape Town. LGBTI stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex.

Visit at Marie Stopes clinic

The Crown Princess pays a visit at a Marie Stopes clinic, which is an international organization that works for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). During the visit, The Crown Princess will get in introduction to SRHR in South Africa, and topics such as family planning and abortion will be discussed. The Crown Princess will also be shown around in the clinic.
Visit at Mothers2Mothers clinic

The Crown Princess visits the Mothers2Mothers clinic, which trains HIV/AIDS-stricken mothers as mentors who advise and guide expecting and new mothers in the same situation. The objective of the mentor programme is to direct an effort towards the special challenges connected with HIV/AIDS-stricken women who are pregnant. During the visit, The Crown Princess will be shown around and meet the centre’s personnel and young mothers.

The Crown Princess visits the LoveLife Youth Centre, which works with education and information about HIV/AIDS among young people. LoveLife is South Africa’s largest national HIV/AIDS prevention initiative targeted towards youth. During the visit, The Crown Princess meets the centre’s leaders and young users.

Visit at Brothers for Life

The Crown Princess pays a visit at Brothers for Life, which among other things has the objective of involving men in the fight against gender-based violence. During the visit, The Crown Princess attends a roundtable discussion with a Community Action Team, which works to mobilize the local community to change behaviour in areas such as gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS infection. The discussion will focus on topics such as norms, values and gender roles in the society.
Visit at diabetes clinic

The Crown Princess visits a mobile diabetes clinic donated by Novo Nordisk to First Lady Bongi Ngema-Zuma’s foundation, which has the goal of fighting and preventing diabetes. During the visit, The Crown Princess will be shown around the clinic and get the opportunity to greet the personnel.

The Crown Princess visits UNFPA South Africa, where there will be a roundtable discussion with UNFPA’s Country Representative Dr. Esther Muia and members of UNFPA’s Youth Advisory Panel focused on topics such as HIV, prevention and social entrepreneurship.
Visit at Vodacom Gender Based Violence Command Centre

The Crown Princess pays a visit at a 24-hour call centre, which was established by the Vodacom Foundation in cooperation with South Africa’s Department of Social Development. Victims of gender-based violence can anonymously contact the call centre, where trained social workers provide over-the-telephone crisis help, support and guidance. During the visit, there will be a tour of the call centre, and The Crown Princess gets an opportunity to meet some of the telephone operators.
Visit at the Thuthuzela Clinic, the Chris Hani Hospital

The Crown Princess visits the Thuthuzela Clinic, which is a 24-hour-a-day, one-stop clinic for victims of sexual assault. The one-stop clinics are located at local hospitals, where the victims receive help to report the case and treatment of physical and psychological injuries. During the visit, The Crown Princess will be shown around the clinic and meet the personnel.
