HM The Queen to visit Colombia
HM The Queen will pay an official visit to Colombia from 23 to 26 November. The Queen will be accompanied by the Danish Minister for Health and Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs, Ida Auken, and the Danish business community will take part in the visit.
In recent years, Denmark and Colombia have strengthened their bilateral relations. Colombia is the third-largest economy in South America and, together with Denmark, holds a seat on the UN Security Council this year.
The Queen’s visit aims to strengthen the Danish-Colombian cooperation on the green agenda and to promote Danish business interests in areas such as health and the green transition. The visit will also demonstrate Denmark’s support for the reconstruction of the areas that were struck earlier this year by the most powerful earthquake Colombia has experienced this century.
In the field of health, The Queen will visit a hospital together with Danish companies. The Queen will also see examples of how health considerations are integrated into the development of livable and healthy cities.
The visit will also highlight the strong Danish-Colombian cooperation on green energy, energy security and sustainable urban development. With its rich and varied nature, Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, but climate change and deforestation are putting pressure on the country’s nature and biodiversity. During a visit to the city of Cali, known as Colombia’s biodiversity capital, The Queen will gain insight into how the El Niño weather phenomenon affects Colombia’s nature and will draw attention to the damage that illegal mining causes to the country’s biodiversity and water supply.
The Queen’s visit to Colombia takes place only three months after the country was struck by its most powerful earthquake this century. Denmark has supported the reconstruction, and during the visit The Queen will meet victims of the earthquake and highlight the ongoing reconstruction efforts.
