Gender equality is the focal point for the international summit, which is arranged by France, Mexico and UN Women to mark the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, which was adopted at the UN’s 4th World Conference on Women in 1995.

The Generation Equality Forum, which follows up on the Beijing Declaration, was launched in March of this year with a virtual summit hosted by Mexico in which The Crown Princess took part as a speaker in the opening panel on female leadership. At that time, Her Royal Highness spoke about the importance of stepping in early to ensure greater diversity among leaders in the world and helping more women gain access to leadership positions, which will better reflect the composition of the population. The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration – a global action plan for gender equality – is to be held 30 June – 2 July with a physical and virtual summit in Paris, where France hosts.

The summit in Paris gathers heads of state and government leaders, ministers, international organizations, civil society groups, young people and businesses from around the world to jointly carry out tangible, ambitious and sustainable initiatives aimed at the achievement of gender equality.
