This year, it will be 150 years since a Danish-Japanese trade treaty was signed. The Crown Prince and His Imperial Highness Japan’s Crown Prince have agreed to serve as patrons of the jubilee celebration in 2017. Earlier this year, Japan’s Crown Prince visited Denmark, and The Crown Prince Couple will visit Japan 8-12 October 2017.

55 Danish companies will take part in the business promotional campaign in Tokyo. Last year, Danish companies exported DKK 22 billion of goods and services to Japan, and the focus of the business campaign will be some of the areas in which Denmark has a strong position – health, food products and design.

The visit in Japan begins with a cultural programme. Among other things, The Crown Prince Couple will visit the exhibition “Everyday Life – Signs of Awareness”, in which Danish handicrafts and design are on display at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa. In addition to that, The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess will join in the “Denmark Fest and Walkathon”, which focuses on Danish lifestyle.

The visit in Japan also includes a number of reunions. The Crown Prince visits Higashi-Matsushima in northern Japan, which was struck by an earthquake and a tsunami in 2011. Shortly after those events, The Crown Prince visited affected people in the disaster area. While in Japan, The Crown Princess will return to H.C. Andersen Park in Funabashi, which The Crown Princess visited back in 2005.

During the Japan visit, The Crown Prince Couple will be accompanied by foreign affairs minister Anders Samuelsen, environment and food minister Esben Lunde Larsen, health minister Ellen Trane Nørby and culture minister Mette Bock.
