HM The Queen to attend COP31 in Türkiye
From 8 to 10 November 2026, HM The Queen will travel to the Turkish city of Antalya to attend the UN Climate Change Conference, COP31, where The Queen will help highlight Denmark’s continued support for international climate cooperation. The Queen will be accompanied by the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, Samira Nawa.
This year, the conference is co-hosted, with Türkiye holding the COP31 Presidency and Australia leading the negotiations.
Electrification is one of the main priorities of this year’s COP host countries. During the conference, The Queen will meet a number of Danish companies presenting their green solutions in the Danish Pavilion at COP31. The focus will be on what the global ambitions for electrification mean for Danish companies, and how their solutions can contribute to the climate, energy security and competitiveness.
During the visit, Her Majesty will focus on, among other things, the climate threat to the Pacific Island states, which is a shared Danish-Australian priority. In 2023, Her Majesty visited the island states of Vanuatu and Fiji, which are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change and rising sea levels. The shared Danish-Australian priorities and values within climate, sustainability and Indigenous peoples are underpinned by the strategic partnership between Denmark and Australia, most recently reaffirmed during the State Visit to Australia in March 2026.
During the visit to COP31, The Queen will also draw attention to the consequences of climate change in the Mediterranean, which is experiencing rising sea temperatures that affect ecosystems and local populations.
The Queen will also meet youth delegates from around the world, including Denmark, who will share their personal experiences of climate change and of working for the green transition.
Finally, The Queen will use the visit to support Danish-Turkish cultural cooperation, which last year led to, among other things, the repatriation of the nearly 2,000-year-old bronze sculpture of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus and around fifty terracotta figures from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek to Antalya.
A detailed programme for the visit will be published at a later date.
