Program for The Crown Prince Couple’s visit in Vietnam

Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi, is the setting from 1-2 November for an official visit as well as a green business promotional campaign in the densely populated country, where the program for the visit has special focus on wind energy and energy efficiency. In immediate extension of the business promotional campaign, on 3 November, HRH The Crown Prince visits Danish companies in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Crown Prince Couple will lead a business delegation of 36 Danish companies, which along with Their Royal Highnesses will take part in seminars and debates about the green transition together with Vietnamese business leaders and government representatives. At the same time, The Crown Prince Couple’s official visit in Vietnam marks that it has been 50 years since Denmark and Vietnam entered into diplomatic ties, and Their Royal Highnesses will, among other things, meet with both Vietnam’s president and vice president.

The visit will be The Crown Prince Couple’s second joint visit to Vietnam. The first took place in 2009, when The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess were on a state visit in the country together with HM The Queen and Prince Henrik. Eleven years ago, The Crown Prince visited the country in connection with the 40th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam.

The Crown Prince Couple pay a visit to Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum
By Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi lies the mausoleum of the founder of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. Ho Chi Minh was chairman of the Communist Party in Vietnam from 1952 until his death in 1969. 

As is the tradition in Vietnam, The Crown Prince Couple will visit the mausoleum before the official reception in the country.

In the government building in Hanoi, The Crown Prince Couple are officially received and welcomed to Vietnam by HE Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân. At the same time, the reception ceremony will mark the 50th anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam. 

Danish-Vietnamese relations extend back to 25 November 1971, when Denmark, as one of the first Western countries, recognized the North Vietnamese government in Hanoi. Denmark subsequently began to offer aid for rebuilding and industrialization of Vietnam.

Opening of Danish-Vietnamese business conference
Under the theme “Creating a greener future together”, The Crown Prince Couple lead a business promotional campaign in Hanoi, where more than 36 Danish companies participate. The Crown Prince gives the opening speech and, together with The Crown Princess, will attend the signing ceremonies between Danish and Vietnamese companies.

During the business promotional campaign, the 36 participating Danish companies are expected to gain insight into additional market opportunities and build up knowledge about new partnerships and business opportunities in Vietnam. In addition, they will gain an understanding of some of the major public investment projects with potential for Danish companies as well as access to relevant decision-makers. The Danish companies take part with different objectives – some are new to the market and participate as part of a larger effort to gain a foothold, while others are already massively present and want to invest further. The larger companies view the promotional campaign as an opportunity to profile the investments and workplaces that they contribute in Vietnam.

The Crown Prince takes part in the opening of wind energy conference
Danish solutions in wind energy are presented to the Vietnamese market at a conference, for which The Crown Prince participates in the opening. With a 3,200-kilometer coastline, Vietnam has major potential for developing sea wind energy, and, at the conference, the Danish companies will present their solutions and results in green wind energy.

In recent years, Vietnam has experienced a big increase in its energy consumption, with annual growth rates of around six percent. To meet the rising energy demand, the Vietnamese companies need partnerships and know-how from the outside. Among other things, the wind energy conference will attempt to create new relationships and collaborations between Danish and Vietnamese companies.

The Crown Prince Couple visit Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the Turtle Tower
In the heart of Hanoi, where more than six million people live their everyday lives, lies Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The visit is part of the cultural program that Their Royal Highnesses are participating in during the official visit in Vietnam.

Among other things, The Crown Prince Couple will see the Turtle Tower, which through the years has become one of Hanoi’s landmarks. The tower was built at the end of the 1800s to honor the legend of a golden turtle that allegedly grabbed a magic sword and then disappeared into the lake.

The Crown Prince attends water puppet theater and is shown Ðông Hồ paintings
The Crown Prince is invited to attend a performance of a traditional Vietnamese water puppet theatre in the company of Vietnam’s vice president. The performance that The Crown Prince will attend tells about myths and legends connected with the nearby Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Vietnamese water puppet theater is presented by puppeteers who stand in water and move the puppets with bamboo sticks. The theater that The Crown Prince is visiting is among the leading cultural places in Vietnam that continue to practice this art form. 

Vietnam’s vice president will also show Ðông Hồ paintings to The Crown Prince. The paintings are Vietnamese folk images and were created on thin paper that consists of bark. The colors in the paintings come from mollusks, wooden plates, copper rust and crushed eggshells, and the paintings are covered by a rice mass to protect the colors against the ravages of time.

The banquet will mark the postponed celebration of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam. At the same time, the participating companies in the Danish business delegation get the opportunity to meet each other. The menu will be put together by the Vietnamese chef Hoang Tung, who is among Vietnam’s most popular chefs. Hoang Tung was trained in Scandinavia and will create a menu that pays tribute to Danish cuisine.

The Crown Prince Couple participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Denmark and Vietnam at Hanoi Opera 
Hanoi Opera from 1901 is a cultural gathering place in Vietnam. On the first day of The Crown Prince Couple’s official visit in Vietnam, the opera building creates the setting for a gala performance to which more than 450 guests are invited.  

The gala performance, in which both Danish and Vietnamese artists contribute, will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam. The performance is the highlight of the celebration, and The Crown Princess will deliver a speech by way of introduction.

Companies from Denmark and Hải Phòng City have a networking meeting focused on the wind energy sector. The Crown Prince will be presented to both Danish and Vietnamese participants at the meeting.

The Crown Princess visits the Xuan Thanh Cement Plant
Xuan Thanh Cement Factory is among the largest cement factories in the world, and the Danish company FLSmidt, with its solutions, has helped the factory achieve greater energy efficiency. Globally, cement production accounts for around seven percent of total CO2 emissions, and The Crown Princess, together with a Danish business delegation, will gain insight into how energy efficiency solutions can be implemented in the production of cement.

The Danish brewery Carlsberg was the first large Danish multinational company to establish itself in Vietnam. During the past 30 years, Carlsberg in Vietnam has worked with local partners to sustain and strengthen Vietnamese beer brands, including Huda, Huda Gold and Halida. The Crown Prince will take part in the celebration of the jubilee and view an exhibition that relates Carlsberg’s Danish history and use of green technologies.
