Roundtable session on Public Private Partnership in Healthcare, Warsaw, 13 May 2014

Offentliggjort den 23. maj 2014

Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure for me to join you today at this roundtable session on public private partnership in Healthcare.

Throughout the world, governments are facing the similar challenge of how they maintain a sustainable economy when facing such a high pressure on healthcare services.

In order to address this; we must work for more and better healthcare at existing levels of expenditure. We must look for new and smarter solutions, and we must have a strong focus on and demand for better quality without an increased use of resources.

Sharing experience and knowledge about solutions and models is of great importance. And today we will have a good opportunity to share the Danish model and experience in these discussions on Public Private Cooperation in the healthcare sector.

During the past decade, Denmark has carefully planned and started a transformation of the Danish Healthcare system, in order to provide sustainable, efficient and high quality healthcare for all its’ citizens.

Danish technology, products and expertise can contribute positively to global health. Of course, we do not have all the answers, but we strive with an open and curious mind to find new, efficient solutions. One example is telemedical solutions forming part of an efficient healthcare system for the benefit of the patient.

As part of the Danish healthcare transformation we are further integrating healthcare and social and welfare services. This approach opens up new opportunities especially within rehabilitation and telemedicine.

Danish companies are already implementing and exporting advanced products and solutions, which can help people with chronic illnesses or elderly citizens to achieve a better quality of life in their own home.

Medical products are among Denmark’s largest exports and constitute about 10 per cent of the total Danish export. This position has been obtained through many years of research and incremental innovation, and through the collaboration between pharmaceutical companies and Danish hospitals and universities to develop new and safe treatments.

The longstanding global presence of Danish companies in the health sector has shown us that our healthcare technology and solutions generate value internationally. Our ideas and products are used every day; in ambulances, general practice and in hospitals worldwide.

We are very happy to share our knowledge and experience and at the same time learn from other healthcare innovators.

I hope today’s discussions will provide valuable information and perspectives on the Danish healthcare model and that perhaps some of you at a later date will have the opportunity to come to Denmark and experience it first-hand.

Thank you.
