Mayor Mancera, Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. Muy buenas tardes a todos.
The Crown Princess and I are delighted to be so warmly welcomed by Mexico City, by its government and citizens, and I would like to thank you for this touching hospitality.
We are very much looking forward to the coming days in your city. During this time, we will have the opportunity to visit some of the most remarkable venues in this great metropolis as well as to meet with Danish and Mexican representatives from government, enterprises and organisations.
The friendly and long-standing relationship between our countries is today reflected by an equally strong tie between our capitals. Our visit is an opportunity to reinforce the exchange of ideas and strategies that can make our cities more sustainable and people-friendly.
Mexico City, like Copenhagen is investing heavily in green initiatives and sustainable transport. Both cities are focused on developing a more efficient interaction between citizens and the environment in which we live.
Mexico City has been making impressive strides in developing its cycling infrastructure and fostering a bicycle culture. In Copenhagen, cycling is very much part of daily life. In order to encourage even more people to hop on a bike, the city is continuously working to create safer and more convenient cycle routes.
This also includes an extensive network of cycle “superhighways”.
I believe our capitals have many goals in common and possess valuable experiences which we can share and learn from.
I hope that the Crown Princess and I, the Danish Minister for Health and the more than 50 Danish companies joining us on this official visit can contribute to the strengthening of existing relations and the development of new partnerships between our countries and capital cities.
Muchas gracias.
